What is an Annual Foot Check?
An Annual Foot Check is a method of gaining information in relation to the health of the foot, to then catagorise if there is any potential risk of developing foot problems in the future.
What Happens During a Diabetic Foot Check?
Relevant information to foot health will be sought, which refers to the blood supply and neurological status of the foot. Painless tools such as a doppler machine, (a small ultrasound device) gathers information about the foot arteries whilst a monofilament helps to assess the neurological status.
Why is a Diabetic Foot Check Important?
An Annual Foot Check for a person with diabetes can be a helpful tool to monitor the arterial blood supply and neurological status, both which can be affected with certain conditions including diabetes. It is also a great opportunity to discuss practical advice and complete the assessment with a letter to share with your GP or Diabetic Health Professional.
Here at Pop Podiatry we are fully equipped with the equipment required to carry out an annual foot check - an important tool for monitoring and helping prevent foot problems occurring in the future.
